A few short months ago, Simone Stacey and Naomi Wenitong were looking forward to the release of their first single "Stop Calling Me" with a mixture of excitement, anticipation and a little apprehension. They'd spent most of the previous year at Megatrax Studios in Cairns, writing, demoing and recording with collaborator/producer Reno Nicastro. The song sounded pretty good to them, but suddenly it was all about to happen...
AND HOW! Not even their wildest dreams nor the high expectations of others could have prepared them for   what awaited. 'Stop Calling Me' received a brilliant reception everywhere. Within weeks of release the track had 'across the board' airplay on all major metro stations and a swag of regionals. It's infectious lyrics, slick
production and catchy chorus winning the ears of music lovers across the nation.
Proud of who they are, thrilled with what they have achieved already, revelling in their partnership, and pumped at the prospect of unleashing their new material, Shakaya were invited to open for Destiny's Child not only in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane but also in Auckland to coincide with 'Stop Calling Me' hitting the airwaves in New Zealand. The best thing is that this is just the beginning. The new songs are sensational, the album (slated for release August / September) will be a killer. Whoever is writing the book on Australian music can now add the name Shakaya to the roster as arguably the freshest and hottest new act of the year. Stay tuned!
