It has a total area of 361.5 km² and a total population of 10,639 inhabitants. Trancoso is famous for its imposing castle rising above a circular line of ramparts which, even today, form the boundary to the Historic Centre of Trancoso. This grandiose castled fortification and the singularity of its heritage within these walls, allow Trancoso to be part of the select club of Historic Villages of Portugal.
